In this series, we will introduce the athletes who have already confirmed their intent to participate in the 11th Gyulai Istv\u00e1n Memorial \u2013 Hungarian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
World class hammer thrower Pawel Fajdek<\/a> (PB 83.93) will compete at the Gyulai Memorial for the ninth time. He was here during the first Memorial at the N\u00e9pstadion when he finished fifth (74.79), the winner was Kriszti\u00e1n Pars that year. He returned three years after that and finished second behind the Hungarian Olympic Champion (80.73) A year later he managed to win with a throw of 83.12 which has been the meet record ever since. He won in 2016 (81.11) and 2017 (82.64) as well, but lost by one centimetre to his compatriot, Wojciech Nowicki, who prevailed with 81.85 metres. In 2019 he took the title back with 80.49. Last year, Nowicki finished first again, while Fajdek was fourth (76.08). Pawel has already reached 82.98 metres this year and he is the leader of the world rankings.<\/p>\n His compatriot, fellow hammer thrower Malwina Kopron<\/a> (PB 76.85) is also a shining star of athletics. The World Championship bronze medallist won the European Throwing Cup this year, then won the Golden Spikes in Ostrava with a throw of 76.74 metres beating last year\u2019s Gyulai Memorial winner Alexandra Tavernier (73.30) and Anita Wlodarcyz who will both return to Sz\u00e9kesfeh\u00e9rv\u00e1r this year.<\/a><\/p>\n We are looking forward to seeing American Sharika Nelvis<\/a> (PB 12.34) again who will compete in the 100 metres hurdles. This will not be her first time in Feh\u00e9rv\u00e1r \u2013 last year, she finished behind Luca Koz\u00e1k who ran a Hungarian record and a year before that she finished third behind Keni Harrison and Nia Ali. In 2018, she beat Keni for the gold medal.<\/p>\n She will have serious competition from Devynne Charlton<\/a> (PB 12.61) who won the first stop of the Hungarian Grand Prix series. The Bahaman athlete is a two-time National Champion.<\/p>\n Last year\u2019s winner of the 400 metres hurdles Femke Bol<\/a> (PB 53.79), who won two indoor European Championship titles in Torun, will return as well. She won both the 400 metres and the 4×400 metres relay in Poland. Last year she won a Diamond League and is the holder of many national records.<\/a><\/p>\n Ramil Guliyev<\/a> (PB 19.76) celebrated his 31st birthday on May 29. The World and European Champion of the 200 metres and six-time Diamond League Champion is familiar with the venue as well \u2013 he finished second behind Christian Coleman in 2019.<\/p>\n We will once again see Jamaican discus thrower Fedrick Dacres<\/a> (PB 70.78). The World Championship silver medallist has won six Diamond Leagues and is currently second on the world rankings. He won the Gyulai Memorial in 2018 and took home the silver medal in 2019.<\/p>\n Freddie Crittenden<\/a> (PB 13.17) will also return. The Pan American Games silver medallist 110 metres hurdler is tenth on the world rankings and finished third last year behind Orlando Ortega and Grant Holloway. He finished fifth in 2019.<\/p>\n He will go up against the likes of Hungarian Bal\u00e1zs Baji and Daniel Roberts<\/a> (PB 13.00), who occupies the eighth place on the world rankings, is an American Champion and won a Diamond League in Paris.<\/p>\n Last year\u2019s triple jump winner Hugues Fabrice Zango<\/a> (PB 17.67) will also come back. He is in excellent form since he broke his personal best this June in France. In January he set the national and African record with a jump of 18.07.<\/p>\n African Champion shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi<\/a> will compete too. The versatile athlete has also achieved good results in discus and hammer as well and is rounding into form \u2013 he threw 21.53 metres in Texas this June.<\/p>\n He will have serious competition from European Championship silver medallist Konrad Bukowiecki<\/a> (PB 22.25) who won the Youth Olympic games in Nanjing, is a two-time Polish Champion and won the Diamond League in Rome in 2019.<\/p>\n Bence P\u00e1sztor<\/a> (PB 75.74) will represent Hungary in the hammer throw. The U23 European Championship silver medallist is still in contention for a place at the Olympics.<\/p>\n Two Hungarian high jumpers P\u00e9ter Bakosi<\/a> (PB 2.26) and D\u00e1niel Jankovics<\/a> (PB 2.24) will also feature. They both competed at the first stop of the Hungarian Grand Prix series in Tatab\u00e1nya and both cleared 2.17 metres.<\/p>\n We will also see B\u00e1lint Szeles<\/a> (PB 13.75) in the 110 metres hurdles and Tam\u00e1s M\u00e1t\u00e9<\/a> in the 100 metres.<\/p>\n The previous parts of the series can be found here:<\/p>\n
