The Gyulai Istv\u00e1n Memorial \u2013 Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix will once again be a highlight and celebration of athletics this year: more stars have confirmed their participation for the event taking place on August 12, 2025, at the National Athletic Center in Budapest. While this announcement doesn\u2019t mark the end of the entry list, there is no doubt that fans can look forward to another outstanding line-up.<\/p>\n

For many years, this prestigious meet has ranked among the world\u2019s top one-day athletics events. It is a well-known and highly respected competition within the global athletics scene, and as part of World Athletics’ Continental Tour Gold series, it continues to attract major international attention. Over the past decade and a half, the Gyulai Istv\u00e1n Memorial has become a true success story where the world\u2019s best go head-to-head and Hungarian fans get to witness the sport\u2019s biggest names in action.<\/p>\n

Regarding the newly announced top athletes, the men\u2019s hammer throw competition will once again be exceptionally strong. Among the competitors are two Polish phenoms: Pawe\u0142 Fajdek<\/strong>, the Gyulai Memorial record holder and five-time world champion, and Wojciech Nowicki<\/strong>, Olympic champion and three-time European champion. Both have thrilled spectators with their exciting duels on numerous occasions.<\/p>\n

In men\u2019s shot put, Jamaica\u2019s Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell<\/strong> is confirmed to compete.<\/p>\n

Among the female sprinters, a major name is Tamari Davis<\/strong>, a world champion with the US relay team and a former Gyulai Memorial winner, arriving with a personal best of 10.83 seconds in the 100 meters.<\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s long jump field, we will see Plamena Mitkova<\/strong> from Bulgaria, winner of the 2022 U20 World Championships and silver medalist at the 2023 U23 European Championships. Representing the home team are Petra B\u00e1nhidi-Farkas<\/strong>, Olympian and U23 European champion, and Diana Lesti<\/strong>, who placed 11th at the World Indoor Championships.<\/p>\n

We can also cheer for two Hungarian pole vaulters: national champion M\u00e1rton B\u00f6nd\u00f6r<\/strong>, who boasts a personal best of 5.45 meters in the men\u2019s event, and Hanga Klekner<\/strong>, the Hungarian record holder, European Indoor finalist, and Olympian, in the women\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n

Organisers have previously announced several other world-class participants. Among the standout names at the region\u2019s most prestigious meet will be Armand Duplantis<\/strong>, currently the world\u2019s best athlete; Femke Bol<\/strong>, the dominant European and Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles; Ethan Katzberg<\/strong>, the youngest world champion in hammer throw; Miltiadis Tentoglou<\/strong>, two-time Olympic long jump champion; Steven Gardiner<\/strong>, Olympic champion and meet record holder in the 400m; and Emmanouil Karalis<\/strong>, this year\u2019s European indoor champion in pole vault.<\/p>\n

Alongside the international superstars, many of Hungary\u2019s top athletes will also compete – none of the country\u2019s biggest names will be missing from this year\u2019s lineup. In the hammer throw, we will see Bence Hal\u00e1sz<\/strong>, the main challenger to Katzberg – Olympic silver medalist, double world bronze medalist, and two-time European silver medalist. In the 400 metres, Attila Moln\u00e1r<\/strong>, indoor European champion, multiple Hungarian record holder, and indoor World Championships bronze medalist in the 4x400m relay, he will look to challenge the meet record holder. In the 100m hurdles, fans can cheer on Luca Koz\u00e1k<\/strong>, Hungary\u2019s Sportswoman of the Year in 2022, European silver medalist, eighth at the indoor World Championships, and national record holder. And in the 100 metres, Bogl\u00e1rka Tak\u00e1cs<\/strong> two-time U23 European silver medalist, seventh at the European Indoors, Olympic and World Championships semi-finalist, and multiple national record holder will likely go up against some of the world\u2019s fastest sprinters.<\/p>\n

On August 12, Budapest will witness a true battle of superstars, as Hungarian athletics celebrates not only on the national stage but alongside the world\u2019s elite, promising thrilling and unforgettable moments at the National Athletic Centre.<\/p>\n
