The wait is nearly over \u2013 on Tuesday, August 12, the legend continues in Budapest at the National Athletic Center with the 15th edition of the Gyulai Istv\u00e1n Memorial \u2013 Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix<\/strong>. As every year, this event will once again be a true celebration of athletics, featuring global superstars, world and Olympic champions, and fan favourites on the track and in the field. As part of World Athletics\u2019 Continental Tour Gold series, the competition ranks among the world\u2019s best and most prestigious one-day athletics meetings. After twelve years, the most prominent athletics event in the region returns to the capital.<\/p>\n In recent months, the organisers have gradually revealed the list of participants. Now, as the event approaches, it\u2019s time to summarise who we\u2019ll get to see in Budapest. One thing is certain: a phenomenal lineup is set to compete, headlined by the sport\u2019s biggest stars!<\/p>\n Men\u2019s Events<\/strong><\/p>\n 100 metres<\/strong>: The current fastest man in the world, Kishane Thompson<\/strong> of Jamaica, is set to compete \u2013 as well as the meet record holder, Akani Simbine<\/strong> from South Africa, and Ghana\u2019s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu<\/strong>, one of the top sprinters in outstanding form this season.<\/p>\n 200 metres<\/strong>: Fans will witness one of the sport\u2019s most popular figures, world record holder Wayde van Niekerk<\/strong> of South Africa; 400 metres<\/strong> Muzala Samukonga<\/strong>, Olympic bronze medallist and African Champion from Zambia. Representing Hungary are national record holders Attila Moln\u00e1r<\/strong> and Patrik Enyingi<\/strong>, much to the delight of the home crowd.<\/p>\n 110m hurdles<\/strong>: Olympic champion from Tokyo, Hansle Parchment<\/strong> of Jamaica, headlines the field.<\/p>\n High jump<\/strong>: Key names include former World Champion Donald Thomas<\/strong> (Bahamas).<\/p>\n Long jump<\/strong>: Greece\u2019s iconic Miltiadis Tentoglou<\/strong> returns \u2013 the reigning Olympic and World Champion, double World Indoor Champion, and three-time European Champion (indoors and outdoors). He has competed \u2013 and won \u2013 twice before at this event.<\/p>\n Pole vault<\/strong>: The face of modern athletics, Armand Duplantis<\/strong>, the world record holder and current number one in the World Athletics rankings, first competed here in 2022 \u2013 arriving, competing, and winning. A two-time Olympic Champion, two-time World Champion, three-time World Indoor Champion, and triple European Champion, Duplantis has conquered every major title in the sport. Among his challengers is Emmanouil Karalis<\/strong> of Greece, this year\u2019s European Indoor Champion and Olympic bronze medallist.<\/p>\n Shot put<\/strong>: Expect a stacked field featuring two-time World Champion and triple Olympic silver medallist Joe Kovacs<\/strong>, Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell <\/strong>from Jamaica, New Zealand\u2019s Tom Walsh<\/strong> (World Champion and three-time World Indoor Champion), and Italy\u2019s European Champion and World silver medallist Leonardo Fabbri<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Hammer throw<\/strong>: The youngest-ever World Champion in the event, Ethan Katzberg<\/strong>, returns after making history in Budapest in 2023 by throwing over 80 metres \u2013 the first Canadian ever to do so. He has since added an Olympic gold medal in Paris. His top challenger is Hungary\u2019s Bence Hal\u00e1sz<\/strong>, Olympic silver medallist, two-time World bronze medallist, and double European silver medallist. Also competing: Poland\u2019s Pawe\u0142 Fajdek<\/strong>, five-time World Champion and meet record holder; and Olympic and triple European Champion Wojciech Nowicki<\/strong>, along with Ukraine\u2019s Olympic bronze medallist Mykhaylo Kokhan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Women\u2019s Events<\/strong><\/p>\n 100 metres<\/strong>: An absolutely dazzling lineup, headlined by Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce<\/strong>, a three-time Olympic and ten-time World Champion. She\u2019ll be joined by fellow Jamaicans Shericka Jackson<\/strong> (Olympic and four-time World Champion) and rising star Tina Clayton<\/strong>, a four-time U20 World Champion who recently won the Jamaican Championships ahead of both Jackson and Fraser-Pryce. Also in the field: Marie-Jos\u00e9e Ta Lou-Smith<\/strong> of C\u00f4te d’Ivoire, three-time World silver medallist. Hungary\u2019s fastest woman, Bogl\u00e1rka Tak\u00e1cs<\/strong>, will also line up among the elite.<\/p>\n 400 metres<\/strong>: Dutch star Lieke Klaver<\/strong>, relay Olympic and World Champion and individual World Indoor silver medallist, will compete.<\/p>\n 100m hurdles<\/strong>: The lineup includes Nadine Visser<\/strong>, double European Indoor Champion from the Netherlands, as well as Hungarian stars Luca Koz\u00e1k<\/strong> and Anna T\u00f3th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n 400m hurdles<\/strong>: Dutch sensation Femke Bol<\/strong> returns \u2013 Olympic Champion in the relay, double World Champion, double World Indoor Champion, five-time European Champion, six-time European Indoor Champion, current European Record holder.<\/p>\n Long jump<\/strong>: Serbian great Ivana \u0160panovi\u0107<\/strong>, World Champion, double World Indoor Champion, two-time European Champion, and three-time European Indoor Champion, will compete.<\/p>\n Pole vault<\/strong>: British World Indoor Champion Molly Caudery.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Of course, this list is not exhaustive \u2013 for a full overview of announced athletes, visit the official event website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
