Attila Spiriev, the sports director of the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix, announced the arrival of new world stars for the 8 August competition on Sport Radio.

The battle between 2019 world champion Christian Coleman and the second fastest man of all time, Yohan Blake, is expected to be astonishing for the 100 m title. After a fantastic season the two young Hungarian sprinters, Dominik Illovszky and Márk Pap have a great opportunity to show themselves to the world alongside them.  

Another sensation is that according to the plans only throwers over 21 metres will be in the shot put event. World record holder Ryan Crouser will also have to compete with the defending champion of the competition, New Zealand’s Tom Walsh in the throwing circle.

In another throwing circle the field of discus throwers will also be on the highest level. Olympic and world champion Daniel Stahl, who won the discus throw in the last three years, will go head-to-head with the world’s best. Among them will be Kristjan Ceh, one of the biggest talents in the competition who is actually more than a talent. This year he improved the Slovenian record to 71.27 meters and is 5-1 against Stahl in 2022.

The Tokyo silver medalist Simon Pettersson from Sweden and the 2017 world and defending European champion Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania are fantastic athletes, as are the two Hungarian participants, János Huszák and Róbert Szikszai, among the best European discus throwers.

Besides Wojciech Nowicki and Bence Halász Krisztián Pars, Dániel Rába, Bence Pásztor, Donát Varga and Gábor Czeller will also be in the field of hammer throw.

Among the hurdlers, like Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Grant Holloway, the 2016 winner of the competition, Nia Ali is also returning. As for the Hungarians, Luca Kozák, Gréta Kerekes, Valdó Szűcs, Bálint Szeles and Dániel Eszes will be among the competitors.

In the women’s 100m, alongside Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce the 60m indoor world champion, Mujinga Kambundji will also be among the opponents of the top Hungarian Boglárka Takács. In the 200 metres, Justztina Csóti will also strengthen the field.

The entry of Steven Gardiner, who withdrew from the World Championships due to injury also is at stake at the Gyulai István Memorial. The king of the 400 metres – if he recovers – would run the 200 metres in Székesfehérvár, where Olympic silver medalist Kenneth Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton will also return to the Bregyó Regional Athletic Center on 8 August, so Tamás Máté and Zoltán Wahl will not be without star opponents.

If that wasn’t enough, Armand Duplantis and Gianmarco Tamberi, the greatest personalities of the pole vault and high jump, are heading to Székesfehérvár between the WCH and the European Championship.
